Bremerton WestSound Symphony’s Young Artists Competition is open to instrumentalists and vocalists residing in Kitsap County, Belfair, or Gig Harbor, aged 18 or under on the competition date March 14, 2020.

The Bremerton WestSound Symphony is looking for exceptional young musicians, one or more of whom may be selected as winners. Winner(s) may be invited to perform in Bremerton WestSound Symphony’s Subscription Series, April 18 and April 19, and/ or Chamber Concert June 7, 2020. Additional winners may be invited to perform in future concerts.

This season we ask for Concertos (Arias, Songs, etc. for vocalists) for the May concerts and Solo Works including Sonatas, Suites, Arias, Songs, etc., for the June concert in two divisions:
Junior: up to age 15 on March 14, 2020
Senior: up to age 18 on March 14, 2020.
Winners will be selected from both divisions.

Young Artists Competition Guidelines

This competition is open to instrumentalists and vocalists who reside in Kitsap County, Belfair, or Gig Harbor. Contestants are responsible for bringing their own accompanist (required) and works selected for performance must be available to Bremerton WestSound Symphony. If there are any questions about the suitability of a work being considered, or any other music-related questions about the competition, please consult the Music Director.

There is a $35 application fee and the applicant’s music teacher must sign the application.

Deadline for applications is Friday, February 7, 2020.
Late applications will NOT be accepted. Applications may be submitted online or by US mail. Please note that your application, application fee of $35, and music teacher signature must be received by close of business, Friday, February 7, 2020 .

The previous year’s winner is not eligible to win but may compete for adjudication and the chance to perform on a Bremerton Symphony Concert.


Competition Process

Each applicant will have seven minutes to perform followed by three minutes of adjudication. Adjudication will be by a panel of judges chaired by the Music Director Bremerton Symphony Orchestra. The decision of the judges is final.

NOTE: All pianists who appear with Bremerton WestSound Symphony will be expected to perform on the piano provided by Bremerton WestSound Symphony. Pianists who prefer to use a different instrument will need to provide their own piano and will need to cover any and all costs associated with the use of a different piano. These may include; rental fees, moving, storage, venue fees, and tuning.
