Winners Perform with the Symphony

Bremerton WestSound Symphony is looking for exceptional young musicians, one or more of whom may be selected as winners.

 

Winners will receive monetary prizes of $1,000 to the Senior winner, $500 to the Junior winner, and $100 to each for up to five runners-up.

 

Contestants auditioning with concerti or other repertoire with orchestra may be invited to perform in one of Bremerton WestSound Symphony’s Subscription Series concerts.

 

Jazz musicians are also invited to compete this season. Repertoire can be an improvisation on any popular or well-known Jazz standard or Bebop tune.

Competition Divisions

Junior Division  -  up to age 15 on Saturday March TBD, 2025

Senior Division  -  ages 16-18 on Saturday March TBD, 2025,

Senior Division  -  vocalists ages 16-22 on Saturday March TBD, 2025

Winners will be selected from both divisions

Competition Guidelines

The Young Artists Competition is open to instrumentalists aged 18 or under and vocalists aged 22 or under by March 2026, who reside in Kitsap, Clallam, Jefferson, Mason, Grays Harbor, Pierce County (west of the Tacoma Narrows bridge only). Contestants are responsible for bringing their own accompanist and works selected for performance must be available to Bremerton WestSound Symphony. Accompanists are required if the piece being performed calls for one. Unaccompanied pieces are exempt from accompanist requirement. If there are any questions about the suitability of a work being considered or any other music-related questions about the competition, please contact the Music Director at info@bremertonsymphony.org.

Deadline for application is February TBD, 2026. Late applications will NOT be accepted. Applications may be submitted online or by US mail postmarked February TBD. Please note that your application and the application fee of $45 must be received by the BSA office by midnight, February TBD, 2026. Timeslots are limited thus registration may closer earlier than deadline once filled. Webpage will be updated to reflect timeslot availability.

The previous year’s winner is not eligible to win in the same division, but may compete for the chance to perform in a Bremerton Symphony Concert. The previous year's junior division winner is eligible for cash prizes and mainstage performance opportunities if they are now competing in the senior division category. 

Competition Fees

Application Fee - $45

Additional Student Application Fee - $25 (for students within the same household)

Additional Music Fee - $25 (if the additional piece requires more than the initial 10-minute time slot.)

Competition Process

Each applicant will have ten minutes to perform. The panel of judges is chaired by the Music Director of the Bremerton WestSound Symphony. The decision of the judges is final.
